You would be surprised at what the dust present in your Data Hall contains. IT Cleaning Ltd were asked to investigate this for one of our cloud data centre companies. Black dust was accumulating on the cabinet doors and equipment in a cold aisles. We vacuumed this dust into a clean vacuum bag and sent the bag to a lab. The results were very surprising see below. The biggest percentage under combustion was Carbon 49%. From this we hypothesised the drive belts from the close by CRAC unit was to blame. On investigation by the client the CRAC unit drive belt was frayed and black dust was all over the protective casing. As the drive belt was predominately Neoprene (carbon base material) the culprit was found.
