Why should you get your Data Hall Cleaned?

There are numerous reasons why Data Hall Cleaning and testing to ISO 14644-1 2015 is an important consideration for Data Centre and IT Managers. Data Hall Cleaning

Fire:

According to the N.F.P.A. (National Fire Protection Agency), most computer room fires start internally inside of equipment. The National Fire Protection Association reports that 78% of non-home electronic equipment room fires originated with electronic equipment. 33% were related to ignition, 29% electrical distribution or lighting equipment, and 16% were spurred by issues with ventilation, heating, or AC equipment. Ignition often occurs from arcing sparks igniting dust. Reduces ventilation is often caused by the reduction of airflow caused by the build-up of dust on and in server airways.

Equipment Manufactures:

Equipment manufactures now have requirements and guides in place for the use of their equipment. A good example is Oracle StorageTek Systems Assurance Guide click here:   Oracle  This guide outlines in detail the issues and requirements for the use of their equipment in a Data Hall. This obviously suggests if the Data Hall dose not reach the requirements outlines in the guide, then warranties may be breached.

Reduction in Efficiency:

Airborne Dust (Particulate Matter) can build up on the Heat Sinks, internal and external airways of the server and switched. Reducing the amount of cold air reaching the chip and thereby causing the equipment to use more power s reducing its efficiency.

The Effects of Dust on Equipment:

Mechanical effects: This includes obstruction of airways (overheating), interference of moving parts, abrasion, optical interference, interconnection interference and deformation of surfaces (magnetic media). During data room refurbishments equipment is often contaminated with plaster dust, which is very abrasive, and can insulate component parts on the PCB.

Electrical effects of dust: These include impedance changes, and electronic circuit conductor bridging.

Chemical effects: Dust settled on a printed circuit board (PCB) can lead in certain circumstance (depending on the dust) to component corrosion (copper creep) and/or electrical short circuiting.

Absorption of moisture: Dust with a high deliquescent relative humidity, like cementitious dust can absorb moisture from the data room, causing the dust to become damp. Which will cause chemical problems (as above) electrical problems, it is now conductive and increase abrasion (mechanical). The final effect can be to reduce the relative humidity in the room which can cause problems with static.

IT Cleaning Ltd can help with Regular Data Hall Cleaning and Testing to ISO 14644-1 2015 Class 8 plus all accessible surfaces free from dust, will reduce the impact of airborne dust in your Data Hall and Mission Critical Equipment.
